Green in Richmond was created to help consumers in #RVA find the people and companies doing good, green things. Richmond has come a long way in the last few years and there are now many green businesses and service providers. I hope this site helps you find them.
Why Green?
After my daughters were born I became more and more interested in how our habits were impacting the world around us and how the world’s chemicals were impacting us. After reading books like Barbara Kingsolver’s, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life, and Christopher Gavigan’s, Healthy Child Healthy World: Creating a Cleaner, Greener, Safer Home,
I wanted to find a better way to take care of my family and the planet.
I started searching for local farms and farmer’s markets that sold grass-fed beef and pastured pork and poultry, and my husband, daughters and I started our own organic garden.
In January 2009, I began blogging at Smart Green Tips about what I was learning along the way.
Through my research, I found a number of excellent resources, not just for food, but for other sustainable purchasing options right here in the Richmond area. I wanted to share these resources with the rest of the community and to enlist your help:
If you come across a business, farmer, or service company that focuses on sustainable and eco-friendly practices, please let me know.
I hope that together we can create a valuable guide to living a little greener, right where we are.
When I’m not updating Green in Richmond, I’m a mom, wife and writer who helps green business owners share their stories more effectively. My marketing and green-biz writing hub is at Smart Green Media.
Best,
Beth
