CONSIGNMENT
◊ Pinstripes and Polka Dots conducts twice yearly children’s consignment events in the Richmond area. Donna and Jill are great to work with and provide a lot of personal touches to make consigning all that stuff easy and enjoyable (I’ve worked with them myself). They are also committed to green, especially green in Richmond. Check out the “going green” page on their website.
THRIFT SHOPS
◊ Thrifty Quaker – Established by the Midlothian Friends Meeting, a quaker meeting (similar to a congregation), the Thrifty Quaker accepts donations of clothing and household items and then donates their profits to charities. Each month the group sponsors a different charity. For example, June’s recipient was the YMCA Bright Beginnings Program, July was the Central VA Food Bank, and August is the Richmond Peace Education Center. Since 1996 they have donated over $2 Million dollars to various groups. The Thrifty Quaker makes it easy to: 1. Clear out things you no longer need. 2. Allow you to “recycle” those items by promoting re-use. 3. Help worthy causes in the process. You can read more about them on their website.
